Steampunk antique light in Stourbridge, Staffordshire for sale

Steampunk antique light

This is a completely unique steamer/antique lamp. This amazing piece of solid brass comes with it's original purpose made wooden box which I think is mahogany with brass protective corner pieces. There are also the original various washers and hoses that came with this wonderful piece of equipment, the brass plate and gauge were also originally in the box although I cannot verify that these two items are part of the original fitting. The 'nut' measures 95mm across and has a piece of glass approximately 12mm thick inset in the centre which I presume is to resist high pressure water. The whole thing weighs 6.6 kilos (14 lb 6oz) approx. As you can see it is a very solid item of fantastic quality and engineering. I have shown it to antique experts and although they are not certain they would estimate the age at somewhere between 1871-1940. Engraved into the face of the nut are the words " The Weir" and " corrosion detector" I did some research and I believe "The Wier" might be the name of the company that made it and they were established in 1871. I can only presume that it would have been attached to another piece of equipment that was to do with high pressure hot water as it has a wooden tap either end to stop heat transference. I have had it professionally restored, polished and wired/tested and mounted on to an old piece of solid oak which as been waxed and polished to a high quality finish. Whatever it was used for I would be quite confident that it is the only one in existence so this is your chance to purchase a piece of history and a totally unique piece of engineering.
